01. About the EBRAINS Community

Last modified by kluver on 2023/10/03 18:51

EBRAINS Community
- a community for neuroscience, brain medicine, and brain-related technology

The EBRAINS Community is for anyone using, developing, supporting, and benefiting from the EBRAINS Research Infrastructure. The EBRAINS Community is interdisciplinary and inclusive, bringing people together, exchanging visions, knowledge and views, and nurturing collaboration.

The EBRAINS Community makes it possible for you to meet with people sharing your interests. In practice, you subscribe, set up your profile, and join the subcommunities reflecting your interests.

There are 3 types of subcommunities:

  1. Thematic: These are established and managed by voluntary users, typically around certain disciplines, groups, research practices or challenges.
  1. Service/tool focused: These are about the services and tools provided in the EBRAINS platform, and they are mainly used by developers and users – often to discuss the service or to provide user-to-user help.
  1. National: Self-explanatory – they gather users from the same country, often facilitated by an EBRAINS National Node, and they are used to advertise national events, PhD courses, or develop national collaborations, communication about around National Node etc.

In fact, there is a fourth type of subcommunity, namely the hidden and secret ones. These can be joined by invitation only, and are used for administrative groups, working groups, projects, or other purposes for a restricted group.

Contact community@ebrains.eu if you want to establish a thematic, service/tool, national or hidden subcommunity.

How do I take part?

Become part of the EBRAINS Community and engage with other members here.

In trouble? Then make use of the tutorials  here

When you have established and published your profile you are to select subcommunities. When that is done, your personal dashboard will open whenever you launch the online community space. There you will se events, posts etc. from the subcommunities you have subscribed to, and the “Interest fields” you have selected, only. If you want to see all events, all subcommunities etc., then you open the Search function and click the types of content you want to see or search in. So, there is always more in the Community Space than meets your eyes on your dashboard.

An inclusive EBRAINS Community

The EBRAINS Community is being built on a set of values supporting an interdisciplinary and collaborative culture:

  • Open and Inclusive. Diversity and multi-actor engagement are key to the collaborative environment. EBRAINS Community is for anyone wanting to take part.
  • Collaborative. The EBRAINS Community culture and activities support wide collaboration in and beyond the scientific communities.
  • Member driven. The needs of the community should be the driver for further development of the EBRAINS Community.
  • Self-organising. The EBRAINS Community is based on the self-interest and self-organisation in subcommunities and activities.
  • For the benefit of society. The EBRAINS Community strives for supporting excellence in science, and for exploitation of results to the benefit of society and the single citizen.
  • Responsible. The EBRAINS Community and its activities live up to the principles of Responsible Research and Innovation, and the legal and ethical standards set for EBRAINS.
