Platforms to share human data via EBRAINS

EBRAINS is making use of Health Research Platforms, services for sharing and working with sensitive data. Currently, these are the Health Data Cloud (HDC), the Human Intracerebral EEG Platform (HIP), and the Medical Informatics Platform (MIP), platforms to provide a broad collection of brain health data and tools to work with, as well as the possibility for researchers to store and share their health data sets in a regulatory compliant way and aligned with EBRAINS Ethics Compliance Principles.

Health Data Cloud HDC

EBRAINS offers a Service for Sensitive data - the Health Data Cloud (HDC) - that assists data controllers and processors in demonstrating GDPR compliance when sharing or processing personal human data. Learn more about how you can join the Health Data Cloud here: HDC/VRE onboarding

Human Intracerebral EEG platform HIP

The Human Intracerebral EEG Platform is a secured and well-controlled open-source platform designed as a Trusted Research Environment (TRE) for the collection, storage, curation, sharing, and analysis of multiscale human iEEG and imaging data at an international level. It aims to promote the development of large-scale research projects and facilitate international collaborations by offering an optimal balance between data privacy, security, and data access for accredited end-users.

The HIP covers the entire field of iEEG-based research, including multi-scale investigation of cognition, consciousness, connectomics, and related disorders. It aims to expand its scope to other time series, such as scalp-EEG and physiological data captures on wearable devices, with the view to offer an international platform for benchmarking novel AI tools for seizure detection, prediction, and forecasting.

Medical Informatics Platform MIP

The Medical Informatics Platform (MIP) is an open-source digital platform, a privacy preserving data analytics solution, specialised in federated analyses of anonymised sensitive health data, distributed among different sites. It is particularly adapted to datasets that cannot be exported outside their country of origin, but which might benefit from transnational federated analyses. Users can explore anonymised, harmonised medical data extracted from pre-processed neuroimaging, neurophysiological and medical records, and research cohort datasets without directly accessing the data for analysis.
