If you already have an EBRAINS account and want to [[**try out access immediately in a non-persistent manner **please use this link>>https://lab.jsc.ebrains.eu/hub/user-redirect/git-pull?repo=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Felectronicvisions%2Fbrainscales2-demos.git&urlpath=lab%2Ftree%2Fbrainscales2-demos.git%2Ftutorial.ipynb&branch=jupyter-notebooks-experimental]]. Please [[see here for explanations>>doc:Collabs.neuromorphic.Getting access.QuickTry.WebHome]] about the non-persistent nature of this quick-try access and how to work with persistently changeable notebooks.

=== Access ===

* (((
(% class="wikigeneratedid" %)
Via Jupyter Notebook- Please see the [[getting access page>>doc:Collabs.neuromorphic.Getting access.WebHome]] for the process.

* Interactive mode:  use the BrainScaleS-2 single chip system interactively from the EBRAINS collab (please use the "EBRAINS-experimental" kernel for running interactive scripts. See the [[troubleshooting page>>https://wiki.ebrains.eu/bin/view/Collabs/neuromorphic/Troubleshooting/]] for a description how to select the kernel)
BrainScaleS-2 interactive examples are [[documented here>>https://electronicvisions.github.io/documentation-brainscales2/brainscales2-demos/0-welcome.html]] and the latest version can be downloaded from the [[Jupyter notebook branch in this github repository>>https://github.com/electronicvisions/brainscales2-demos/tree/jupyter-notebooks]]  or [[git clone the whole examples part>>doc:Collabs.neuromorphic.HowToUse.Git clone from a notebook.WebHome]].
* Batch mode. The [[dashboard page>>https://nmpi.hbpneuromorphic.eu/dashboard/]] shows the system queue status and usage)
** Example: [[synfire chain>>https://lab.ebrains.eu/user-redirect/lab/tree/shared/NMC%20Collab%20copy%20template/BrainScaleS/BrainScaleS_01_Chain.ipynb]] on BrainScaleS-1 wafer scale system
** Example: [[single membrane experiments>>https://lab.ebrains.eu/user-redirect/lab/tree/shared/NMC%20Collab%20copy%20template/BrainScaleS/BSS-2_singleNeuron.ipynb]] on BrainScaleS-2 single chip system

* For special purposes access to dedicated setups can also provided via EBRAINS. Please request this type of access via support@ebrains.eu

=== System types ===

For BrainScaleS three different system types are currently available via the EBRAINS Collaboratory ("Collab"):

* BrainScaleS-2: the 2nd generation system. Currently available are single chip systems, accessible via Collab since June 2020 for low-level access and since March 2021 also for access using PyNN.
For a system introduction / overview and some experiment examples see e.g. "[[The BrainScaleS-2 accelerated neuromorphic system with hybrid plasticity>>https://arxiv.org/abs/2201.11063]]." (arXiv, published 26 January 2022)

* The first generation wafer-scale system, accessible via Collab since the [[HBP platform release>>http://www.kip.uni-heidelberg.de/vision/news/20160330-platform_launch/]] on 30 March 2016
