The metadata representation (instance) of each openMINDS metadata schema has to be provided as JSON-LD. Within a graph database and correspondingly designed metadata models, a full metadata description of a research product includes multiple metadata instances of different schemas and, therefore, consists of a collection of interlinked JSON-LDs.
JSON-LD is a powerful, lightweight Linked Data format, ideal for storing such interlinked metadata instances of a graph database, such as the EBRAINS Knowledge Graph. Considering the different levels of programming skills present in the community, openMINDS reduced the technical challenge to understand, write and read openMINDS conform JSON-LDs by focusing on the essential syntax of this format.
Furthermore, openMINDS provides different approaches that support users to write and deliver a metadata description for their research product in form of a openMINDS conform JSON-LD metadata collection.
