Introduction

The Collaboratory offers two storage solutions for collabs: the Drive and the Bucket. The Drive is especially well suited for files and documents that need to be worked on in a more agile manner, possibly also collaboratively. For larger files, datasets, and videos the Bucket offers a better solution.

All files in the Drive are version-controlled. The history of a specific file can be viewed from its triangle icon menu: date and modifier (username) for each version.

Files (and folders) in the Drive can be shared via smart links (with members of the collab's Team) without having to worry about a trailing link in a document that could fall into the wrong hands. They can also be shared via public links (read-only for anybody, including those without an EBRAINS account). See the FAQ for more information about these links.

The Drive interface offers drag-and-drop functionality for easy upload of files.

In the Drive, files and folders can be renamed and reorganized in place, compared to the Bucket which requires files to be re-uploaded if names names need to be changed.

Users are invited to put an end to exchanging files by email which stuff their Inbox, where identifying which is the latest version takes time, and where merging of edits done on separate copies of the file is a complicated and often manual step. Users can instead work online collaboratively. The version control on files is also an easy way to check who edited each file and rollback to a prior version.

Users can also install the Seadrive application on their computer to access the Drive storage directly.
